It Will Cost Extra | Short English Story

A boy and a girl fell in love. But the girl’s parents did not agree, because the boy was poor. They sent her to study abroad. The boy stayed home and became a taxi driver.

Ten years later, the girl came back. She needed a ride, so she called a taxi.

She sat in the back. What a big surprise —she sat in his car!

The boy looked in the rearview mirror and knew it was her. She looked the same as before— still bright, still beautiful.

But the boy looked older and tired.

He didn’t say a word. What if she didn’t remember him? What if she did, and it was awkward? He just drove in silence.

The girl took out her phone and started a “call.”

She spoke about her ten years abroad. The boy listened in silence.

When they arrived, she ended the “call” and said, “I told you everything about my life abroad. Why don’t you say hello?” The boy was shocked. He whispered, “Hello.”

She looked at him — really looked — eyes full of the same old feeling, mixed with years of everything unsaid.

“Can we go back?” she asked.

The boy gave a sad smile and said, “Yes, we can turn around…

… but it will cost extra.”
