The Wildest “Refund Only” Scam: A 300km Inter-Provincial Chase

Hey everyone. Today, we’re talking about the craziest “refund only” case on Pinduoduo.

I’m not much of an online shopper. But you’ve probably heard of Pinduoduo’s “refund only” policy. Buyers receive a refund without needing to return the item.

Now, it’s turned into a complete mess in some cases.

🕵️‍♂️ What Happened

Early November 2025. A buyer in Heze, Shandong, bought a Colorful RTX 5070 Tomahawk Deluxe graphics card. Paid about $580. The original price was $640, after the discount.

When verifying, he typed “0” instead of “O” in the serial number. Couldn’t check it. He complained immediately: it’s a fake product. Demanded a full refund plus triple compensation.

Seller Mr. Yang showed proof that it was genuine. The buyer changed his story: said it was a refurbished second-hand. Filed another complaint.

Seller’s support was slow to respond. Platform auto-approved “refund only.” The buyer kept the card. Got full money back.

Worse: he left a bad review, calling it “refurbished.” Shop sales crashed. Returns from others spiked.

Mr. Yang was furious. On November 30, he drove over 300 km from Bozhou to Heze. Confronted the buyer in person.

The buyer denied it at first. Police arrived. Then he admitted everything.

They agreed: buyer pays the full $640. Deletes the review.

But when it came time to sign, the buyer backed out, got aggressive, and refused.

⚖️ Outcome

Police said: no criminal fraud. Suggested civil lawsuit.

Bad review as defamation? The court must decide.

Mr. Yang calls it fraud. But legally, fraud needs three things:

  1. Deception.
  2. Causing misunderstanding.
  3. The victim loses money because of it.

Here, the sale was real. The buyer kept the item. Made excuses. Didn’t pay.

Not criminal. Civil case only. Some say push for criminal filing anyway.

📉 Latest Update

As of today, December 20, 2025. Mr. Yang has no card. No money. Bad review is still there.

He plans to sue. Wants compensation. And a public correction.

This happened in Shandong. The platform has not commented yet.

We’ll watch for updates.
