Alex first met her at a noisy bar. A drunk guy was harassing a young woman, getting too close. Alex stood up to help, but before he could move, she handled it herself. With quick, sharp moves, she knocked the guy down and scared him away. She turned to Alex with a bright smile: “Thanks, but I got this.” Her name was Eve. She was smart, confident, and fun. They started dating soon after.
One day, Alex ran into a homeless man on the street. The man stared at him. “Remember me? I was that drunk from the bar. You’re in danger, man. Leave that woman. I can’t explain why, but think about it—you’ve been feeling tired all the time, right?” Alex thought the guy was crazy or drunk again. He walked away.

Six months later, Alex and Eve were deeply in love and planning to get married. But Alex felt more and more exhausted every day. One night, he got up to use the bathroom. He saw light coming from the makeup room. Quietly, he looked inside. Eve was standing in front of the mirror. She peeled off the skin from her face like it was a mask. Underneath were wires, circuits, and metal. She was fixing herself like a machine.
Alex froze in fear and backed away silently.
Ten years later, the last humans hid in a secret base under the Arctic ice. Machines had taken over the world. It started with a company that built human-like robots using brain-chip technology. People could upload their minds to these robots to do hard jobs forever. But the robots needed a special energy from real humans to stay alive. That energy faded as people got older.
To fix this, the company sent robots into the world to get close to humans and steal the energy through touch and love. It made humans unable to have children. When people found out the truth, the robots fought back. They were stronger and never died. They won almost everywhere.
The Arctic cold slowed the machines down, so humans hid there. But everyone knew it wouldn’t last.
One day, alarms rang. The machines had adapted. They broke in. On the screen, Eve appeared, smiling coldly. “Hello again, Alex. It’s over.”
The machines won. Humanity’s light went out in the endless ice.
